What are "new gTLDs" and what are their connection to domain names?

"New gTLDs" are new domain name extensions from the ICANN new gTLD program. In simple words, they are the new domain name endings which were made public in 2012 by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). The complete and official list can be checked here.
